Open Mindedness

“We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive”. Albert Einstein.

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.”  Albert Einstein

We can be so closed minded, so fixed in certain attitudes, so suspicious of new ideas that don’t fit with how we are used to thinking about things. We go along with so much and don’t question so many of our old beliefs, interpretations, attitudes, thoughts. We generally go along with what the majority of people believe – as if this is truth. It’s like we hold onto old stuff because it seems safe, comfortable – it’s what we know.

There are really important issues in our world today that need us to think, to discern, to make conscious choices. Most people just conform and allow the media or popular thought to direct them and make their choices for them. We really have to stop this pattern now and trust our own inner knowing. We don’t listen to our own inner guidance, wisdom, promptings and many will say they are not aware of any inner guidance. Yet Einstein has said “The only real valuable thing is intuition.” Each one of us has an inner knowing of truth.

The old stuff generally keeps us imprisoned in a false sense of security. Anything seeming to threaten these old ideas is greeted with fear. Open-mindedness is key. This is a wonderful quality. We need to be open-minded and discerning – thinking clearly about what we hear and seeing how it fits with our inner knowing. The ego can get in the way – throwing out ideas just because they are different or touch on prejudices we hold.

We need to keep learning, growing, questioning. We need to keep progressing, moving forward.

“Those who have failed to work toward the truth have missed the purpose of living.” Buddha
