Me Thinking versus Us Thinking

curracloewintermb

So long as I am caught in ego consciousness my world is all about me and mine – am I fitting in, am I safe, am I liked, am I doing the right thing, who loves me – It’s all about me, my concern is me and how everything affects me.

Think about this and see what you discover as you observe yourself and others in daily life – no judgement.

The only way out of this imprisonment is to start making that inner journey to connect with your Soul, your Higher Self and to seek truth. It is your belief that you are a physical body, an ego, separate and, so, constantly under threat, that has you all self concerned. As you make that inner journey to connect with your Soul, your Higher Self, you find truth. You discover how it is that your belief that you are separate, on your own, a physical body, has you deeply caught in fear and believing in all that you fear.

As you make that inner journey, you discover how your Soul, your Higher Self, is your inner compass, your guide, always there for you, waiting for you to connect and to ask and to listen. You will not hear this guidance until you make a conscious effort to turn to your Higher Self and seek guidance.

This happens as you take time every day to connect. Start by setting up time every day to meditate and journal. The ideal is to start your day with a daily silent hour. You might think this is impossible but if you really want something you make sure to go after it and fit it in – you make a plan for it, you schedule it.

It is a bit harder to motivate yourself to want that daily silent hour. It can seem like extra work and effort and you’re not sure how or whether it will benefit you. I can tell you from my own experience that this daily practice will change your life in such a good way and lead you to heal, to find meaning and to live a life of purpose. You will no longer be pushed around by the storms of life, caught in one emotion or another, reacting and suffering. You will understand so much more, and more and more as you persist and you will not only feel connected to yourself and in charge of your life and where you are going, you will feel connected to others and involved in making our world a better one. You will find yourself thinking in terms of we, us, and the greater good of all. This is where we all need to go.

Daily spiritual practice is essential if you want to change your experience, understand more and heal – move out of suffering and, instead, be involved in learning, growing, discovering truth. This is really living.

Seeking Truth

“Those who have failed to work toward the truth have missed the purpose of living.” Buddha

The purpose of living is to work toward the truth, to seek truth, discover truth. Many people have a sense of searching – always looking for a book, a course, something that will lead them on. There’s a hunger to know, to understand more.

After some years working in psychotherapy I felt there had to be more. There had to be more I could find out about suffering that would help us to understand the cause of it and how to heal rather than remain stuck in it and very often experience ourselves as victims, especially of our past. My questions and search have led me on a deeply interesting as well as challenging journey. I reach one level of understanding and I move onto another.

How do we know truth? How can we trust that we will know truth? Many go along with what the majority of people believe – as if this is truth. We conform to an outer code of fear and don’t listen to our own inner guidance and promptings.

Old, unquestioned beliefs generally keep us imprisoned in a false sense of security. Anything seeming to threaten these old ideas is greeted with fear. Anything different is treated with suspicion.

We have come to doubt the validity of our inherent spiritual perception. We mistrust it. Instead we seem to think that truth is discovered outside of Self. We go by the experience and perception of others so much of the time.  We see the experiences coming from outside ourselves as more real than the influences coming from Spirit within us. We have conformed to a fear-based external code and don’t listen to our own inner guidance.

Each one of us has an inner knowing of truth. But we need to use it, work with it, so that it gets stronger. We all have inner wisdom and when we practise discernment which is VITAL – we learn to know the difference between truth and illusion, between the voice of Spirit and the pull of ego and the lower self.

We need to open our minds and practise listening to new ideas. This way we develop our ability to discern truth. New ideas are exciting and open us up to so much more.

Fear and doubt do not help us to know truth. They contract us and imprison our Spirit. They keep us conforming.

Love and discernment are Soul qualities that open us up to greater knowing and understanding.

Fear contracts us. Love opens us up and expands us.

Many of us grew up with the belief that faith means believing without question in what you are told is truth. Many have reacted to this by shutting out any talk of Spirituality, any mention of anything that hints of religion.

The step for us, now, is to begin to get a sense of our own inner truth, to make space to listen to our inner guidance and wisdom, to begin to recognise it and honour it. We need to keep learning, growing, questioning. We need to keep progressing, moving forward.
We are here to transcend the illusion of fear and return our minds to the truth of love.

Moving into Soul Consciousness Part 1

We are now to become Soul conscious beings. This is our evolutionary goal at this time. We are to learn to think, feel, behave and speak as Soul conscious beings.

Having a sense of purpose is essential. It helps us to have a sense of direction. It brings focus and clarity to one’s life and helps us to give up that tendency to be all over the place, for our energies to be going in all directions. You can now choose to see your purpose as being to realise that you are a Soul and to learn to live in Soul consciousness.

We have believed that we are physical bodies and egos and lived as if separate from the Divine and unaware of the Soul. Ego, physical body consciousness, is about fear, separation, loneliness, threat, anxiety. Soul consciousness is about love and oneness, peace, joy and gratitude, abundance, willpower, order and rhythm, all is well.

Whenever there is fear, you are caught in separation. Fear is so prevalent in the world now. The more we focus on it, the more we experience it. We think this is normal – that this is reality and there’s no seeing it any other way.

Fear is so real because of our belief in separation. We can now learn to rid ourselves of this belief and replace it with belief in love and oneness. It takes learning, expanding our understanding, practice, patience and never giving up. The more you practise it, the more you will experience it. The more you focus on it, the more your experience of it will increase.

Often the strength of your lower self and, old faulty thinking of the negative ego, will pull you off and you will need to use your mind and your willpower to pull your attention back to your Soul and love, joy, gratitude, peace, abundance, willpower, wholeness, trust, oneness. This is how we do it – constantly picking ourselves up after a fall and keeping on keeping on, nurtured by the increased love, joy, peace and gratitude we experience.

Managing Fear, Worry and Anxiety

Truly fear has such a hold over the world, over each one of us. We think it is so real. Fear is false evidence appearing real. Worry is a deeply ingrained habit for many people – and yet worry is simply negative affirmation.  It depletes the worrier and is of no help to the one worried about. Why not pray for the person you are worried about? I also ask ArchAngel Michael to protect someone I could be pulled to worry about and then I practise trust.  Worry is of no help to anyone and simply causes a sense of powerlessness.  Anxiety, too, is so prevalent.

I will often say to myself, do not give in to fear, Gill. Fear grows and increases in strength as we feed it.  It disempowers us, limits us, paralyses us.

It’s very important to become aware of your fears – to write about them in your journal, what they are and why these things bring up fear for you.  Our fears control us so long as we avoid looking at them and dealing with them. Avoidance is fear’s best friend.

Fear is the effect of our belief that we are a physical body, an ego, separate.  We have forgotten who we are and why we are here. We can’t really begin to change the hold fear has over us until we choose to take on our Spiritual path and connect with our Soul, our Higher Self and the purpose of life.

When you begin to connect daily and frequently with your Higher Self and ask for help and guidance, you begin to understand how you are never alone, you are never on your own. You are always loved, supported and guided.  When you see every lesson as a challenge and opportunity to grow, you learn more and more about the love, wisdom and power that are within you – but you need to claim them and build them. When you deny the fear thought entry to your mind and instead choose to focus on and build love, trust, peace and so forth, your connection to your Soul and all the powers of your Soul, grows and strengthens.

The soul is imprisoned in the physical body so long as we believe and live as if we are a physical body and separate. When we begin to connect with our Soul and practise Soul energies such as love, joy, peace, gratitude, abundance and so forth, we begin to live as a Soul and to experience life through the perspective of our Soul. This is who we are.

Practising Soul Consciousness.

Right through each day we have the choice to see what happens through the eyes of our Soul or from the perspective of ego – beginning as soon as we wake up. Observe how you are when you wake up and what kind of thoughts you are having as well as what kind of emotions you are experiencing. And do you tend to want to bury your head under the covers and avoid waking up?

Most people wake up with a sense of anxst or tension, in a state of hypnosis – hypnotised by the widely held belief in the world that separation and fear are real and it’s a matter of making the best of a troubled and difficult world. For the most part, we feel on our own, alone, caught in a sense of me.

It’s so different to wake up and attune to your Higher Self, your Soul, to the Divine being that you are. This has you connecting to your Self and the Love, Power and Wisdom within you.  Now you are empowered. Then you could focus on the power and willpower within you until you have a strong sense of this. Now focus on joy and repeat this word until you feel it vibrating through your energy field.

Making time to meditate and journal when you get up, strengthens your connection to your Soul and the purpose of your life, your day. You are stronger and clearer. You are Soul attuned and so it will be easier to see lessons that come up as challenges and opportunities to grow – and not as bummers.

When you are pulled to see something that upsets you from the perspective of ego, you will be quicker to be aware of your choice to react from your ego [and its interpretation of put down] or to respond from your Soul and your desire to learn and grow.

When you have made a mistake and reacted, you will be quicker to not give power away to your critical inner parent and self abuse and, instead, to love and forgive yourself and determine to improve and not make that mistake again.

Some months ago I found myself reacting to another’s anger with anger. I took myself off to get something.  As I walked down the stairs I thought, oh Gill, lesson, challenge, opportunity and I smiled. Then I could see more clearly than ever before the choice before me – put the other down expressing my “righteous” anger or choose love. Choosing love felt good – not just for the other but for me too.

What it means to live in Soul consciousness

Roses

When we live in ego consciousness it’s all about me, how everything affects me. I think in terms of me and my. This is where we have been stuck for a long time because we didn’t know there was another way.

When I am thinking in terms of me, my, mine, my Soul is imprisoned and I am living in separation and fear. I am all focused on trying to be liked, be accepted, fit in, feel safe.  I am consistently on high alert trying to work out what is expected of me in any given situation. I am disconnected from my  Self, my Soul.

My Soul, my Higher Self, is my inner compass. We have a Higher Self, a Soul, always guiding us, always there for us. We need to learn to attune to our Higher Self and ask for help and guidance – and listen. We need to make quiet inner time every day so we can build our relationship to our Higher Self.

Living in Soul consciousness means aiming to always see what happens as teaching us – seeing it as an opportunity to learn, to grow in love and think in terms of we, us, the world. Everything that happens brings us the opportunity to learn to see from the Soul’s perspective rather than the ego’s perspective. Everything is teaching us to remember what our Soul already knows.

Living in Soul consciousness means using our minds more – thinking about things rather than going with our emotions and giving our power away to them. When we calm our emotions we can see and think more clearly.

Living in Soul consciousness means practising and building the qualities of the Soul. Love, joy, peace, gratitude, trust, abundance, willpower and, all such beautiful qualities, are seed potentials within us but we need to pay attention to them, call them in, practise them so that we develop them.

Everyday choose to start the day by focusing on a particular Soul energy so you can build it and make it stronger in your life. Focus on one quality for a week and whenever you feel pulled to negativity, take your attention away from the negativity and focus on a Soul quality or energy.

Just think, when you choose to not entertain negative thoughts and instead fill your mind and heart with love, you send the energy of love out into the world, into mass consciousness instead of the negativity – and you are filled with that love too. It takes practice.

Thinking in new ways

Life is a very precious opportunity.  Life is a Spiritual path and we’re not here to give out, complain, blame, feel powerless. Yet that’s what we keep doing. Take the most recent world challenge with Brexit.  So many doom and gloom predictions. So much powerlessness and negative expectation expressed in conversations.

This pattern of seeing what happens as problems rather than challenges and opportunities, is so deeply ingrained in people that it’s difficult for people to understand that there is another way to perceive challenges.

Einstein said “In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.”

While most conversations about Brexit are filled with negative expectations and attention on the worst case scenarios there are positive voices coming through as well. Some have expressed the view that the European Union, as it is run now, is not democratic – it needs to change. It is good to look at how we do things and see how we need to improve.

We must see with this challenge that it is not just a challenge for the UK – it affects all of us. We are all in this together. This is true of most world challenges. If we do not work together for the greater good of all, we will fail to find the solutions that create more and better for all.

Take the whole matter of sustainability and looking after our earth. Many are telling us that there will be huge economic benefit in becoming more eco conscious in how we live – more jobs, more sustainable power sources, better health, better living conditions, more to share around for all.

“We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.” Einstein

We are so used to the fear and negative expectation. That is what seems so real to us. We need to stop using powerless language and think in terms of opportunity, working together for solutions and positive action. There is so much good change taking place where people are cooperating in a spirit of goodwill, ready to learn, grow and discover.

The mayor of Copenhagen has said that they intend to be carbon neutral in ten years time and he has the citizens of Copenhagen all backing this idea and doing their part.

The Duhallow community group in north Cork has been giving a lead for many years through its work for wildlife and the environment. And there is so much more.
